FairSeas · Crew Commission Distribution
Crew Tip Pool Calculator
Fair, transparent distribution based on position tiers and rotation schedules
Position Tier System
Base shares by position, adjusted by rotation schedule
- • Captain
- • Chief Engineer
- • Chief Stew
- • First Mate
- • Second Engineer
- • Stews
- • Deckhands
- • Junior Engineers
- • Junior Crew
- • Trainees
How It Works
Each position has a base share value. This is then multiplied by your Rotation Factor (1.0 for permanent, 0.5 for 1:1, etc.) to calculate your final weighted shares. Higher tiers reflect greater responsibility and seniority.

How Distribution Works
Step 1: Each position gets base shares according to their tier (T1=2.0, T2=1.5, T3=1.0, T4=0.5)
Step 2: Multiply by rotation factor (Permanent=1.0, 1:1=0.5, 4:2=0.67, etc.)
Step 3: Sum all weighted shares across crew
Step 4: Calculate value per share = Total Pool ÷ Total Shares
Step 5: Each crew member's payout = Their Weighted Shares × Value Per Share
Why This System Is Fair
This position-based tier system ensures transparent, predictable distribution without revealing individual salaries. Everyone knows the rules upfront and can verify their own payout.
Rotation factors ensure that crew working fewer months per year receive proportionally less from the pool. A Captain on 1:1 rotation (working 6 months) gets 50% of what a permanent Captain would receive—reflecting their actual contribution to the vessel over the year.
Position tiers reflect industry-standard responsibility levels. Senior positions (Captain, Chief Engineer) carry more responsibility and receive higher shares. This is fair, transparent, and aligned with yachting industry norms.
