YACHT-UNLIMITED-L1.2

Scope, routes and limitations

The certificate is powerful but deliberately bounded, and command means knowing exactly what a ticket does and does not authorise. This lesson covers its scope, entry routes and limitations.

Scope and limits

The Yacht Unlimited CoC is specific to large yachts above 3000 GT. It authorises Chief Mate or Master on yachts of any tonnage, but it does not grant unlimited Chief Mate or Master status on any other vessel type — an officer cannot use it to command cargo ships or tankers. The route builds on an existing yacht CoC, typically Master or Chief Mate (Yachts) <3000 GT, plus the required management-level modules, seagoing service and ancillary certificates. It sits at the top of the yacht deck ladder and completes the progression that begins with the Yachtmaster feeders.

WARNING — Yachts only The certificate is for yachts. It does not convert to an unlimited ticket on cargo ships, tankers or other vessel types, and an officer must not represent it as doing so.

NOTE — It completes the yacht ladder The Yacht Unlimited CoC is the capstone of the deck pathway: RYA theory and the Yachtmasters feed Master <200, which feeds OOW <3000, Chief Mate and Master <3000, which feed the Yacht Unlimited CoC.
